Who We Are

LISA and JASON

We met in Washington DC and are both curious-fun types. Our friends and relatives know us as kind and very loyal people. Since we were both young, we dreamed of having a family. Life hasn't always been easy for us. We've had our share of difficulties and hard times but we are lucky that our struggles have made us closer.

MAX

Picture
Born in Pennsylvania, Max has spent most of his life so far eating, sleeping, laughing and growing.  He is incredibly loving and gives hugs and high fives anytime.  We've also seen him go bring a toy to an upset friend to make them feel better.  No one has a cuter little run or way of saying "yesssh".

His favorite things include: airplanes, books, owls, the moon, cats, dogs, cheese, apples, bananas, white cars, red cars, black cars, and purple cars.  He says "shoes" (choos) and "socks" (thocks) in an over-the-top adorable way.

LISA

Picture
Lisa was born in Hawaii, while her dad was stationed there for the U.S. Navy. Unfortunately for her, the family moved to Washington D.C.-area  just three months later. She has no memory of the islands, and is unhappy that they chose not to name her Liliuokahlani.

Lisa started working odd jobs at age 10 and has been everything from a waitress to a cashier to a line cook.  A bit of a nerd and a bit of a geek both, she went to a science and math high school.  Then to college, where she majored in economics and learned to love ramen noodles.

She got a State Department grant to study in Russia and stayed an extra year.. It was cold. The borscht was very good.

Fast forwarding here, she returned to the U.S. and became a TV reporter in South Carolina.  Next, back to Washington D.C. where she has worked for the Associated Press and two major news networks. She has covered national and international stories (presidential races, Haiti earthquake, Israel/Syria, mining accidents). Yep, you can see her on TV sometimes.

Hobbies: Lisa loves to grow things.  She planted dozens of flowers and vegetables in our yard and rescued a very old bright red rose bush from death.  Lisa loves to cook and also likes to boogie. She sings in the shower.  And she really likes volunteering.

JASON

Picture
Jason grew up in the northernmost part of Maine and spent high school in the middle of Connecticut.  As a result, his favorite sports teams are from all over the country (there really aren't any teams close to the top of Maine).

Jason worked several jobs to help get through college, including the overnight hours at a gas station followed by an early morning shift at a bagel shop.  He did not get much sleep but did have access to a lot of coffee and carbs.

After college, he worked in Louisiana for a few years, experiencing full-blast air conditioning for the first time in his life.  He next came back north to Washington, D.C., where he studied at night and earned his M.B.A. online.

Hobbies:  Jason plays on an adult-league baseball team, that is full of great guys. He is a really good craftsman - he built a shed outside our house and many other projects. Our neighbors joke the he always must have a project.  Jason also loves Lego and Nanobloc sets.  And he is a very good photographer. He has a good music ear and writes electronic music.

Trivia: Jason likes to point out that his name is the only one that appears on every calendar.  (The first letters of July, August, September, October, November... he's sort of a nerd.)

 LISA v JASON v MAX

How are we different from each other?
  • Jason is the most athletic, by far. Lisa has taken up softball in the past few years and loves it (and her teammates), but is naturally not so coordinated.  Jason has played and been good at sports all of his life.  Max can readily identify which sport a ball is used in, but has not yet picked a favorite. It's between baseball and basketball.
  • Lisa is more forgiving of people and optimistic about the world. Jason is not a pessimist, he just thinks that Lisa sometimes gives people too much credit. He is more protective.  Max is a hugger who often flirts in check-out lines.
  • Jason is a great builder and handyman.
  • Lisa is a good cook.
  • Jason has an amazing music library, spanning all genres. Lisa fell for Broadway music in high school and college but now listens to a lot of new bands.
  • Max's favorite songs are the ABC song, Old MacDonald and Hey Jude.
  • Jason has a weakness for sneakers.
  • Lisa has a weakness for Starbucks chai.
  • Max has a serious weakness for peanut butter crackers.
  • In football, Jason is a Dallas fan. Lisa is a Washington fan. Max roots for whichever team throws more.
  • We disagree over which one of us is better at cleaning or organizing the house.  (Though agree that it's not Max.)
  • Also, we probably disagree about Taylor Swift. But we haven't really talked about it. Just a guess.
  • Max is still sorting out his favorite teams, hobbies and loves.  He does like the Weekend, George Michael, Michael Jackson, Sia and anything with a good beat.
